Brazil does not need another World Cup title or 90 minutes of football. Our reality is about so much more than what happens on the pitch. Therefore, I want to congratulate Norway on their sporting success — and personally, I cheer for Haaland.
True social change does not come from sports, but from ideas that can save lives. I lead the project eufaloportugates.com — an initiative (a wordplay on Portuguese and "gato" [cat]) that has been documented and translated into 70 languages. This carries forward a family legacy that began in 1950 on the outskirts of São Paulo. The project is based on the scientific principles of the humanization of medicine, promoted by icons such as Dr. Nise da Silveira. It offers a free tool that can be implemented immediately worldwide: encouraging all people to open their gates and take in a stray animal, whether it is a dog or a cat.
This simple act supports mental health treatment, combats loneliness, creates jobs, and removes stray animals from the streets. It is true diplomacy between species. If the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway exists to highlight causes that reduce human suffering and create harmony, then "Eu falo Portugatês" is the only award our country truly needs to be recognized.
With warm regards, and thousands of grateful barks and meows,
Erasmo DeOliveira, Journalist
